After Wife Left for Neighbor, Dad Raises 7 Kids Alone for 10 Years — Her Shocking Return

After Wife Left for Neighbor, Dad Raises 7 Kids Alone for 10 Years — Her Shocking Return
← Previous Part (1) Reading Part 2 of 3

And my daughter took it off her and said thank you.

Mum. I'm glad you came. Can I show you something on my phone.

I was in the kitchen doorway. I didn't know what was happening.

She did something on her phone and turned it round and held it up.

He read it over her shoulder.

I watched that man's whole face go.

And my wife made a noise, and then screamed — properly screamed, so that every single person in that garden came in.

(I know everyone's desperate to know what the messages said… so if you want full story, leave a ""YES"" below!)

My wife, Eleanor, was on the step smiling. Behind her stood David Hemmings, the man I’d known since we were eleven. She came past me into my own hall without looking at me. My daughter, Lily, was in the kitchen getting another bit of cake. She was two when Eleanor left. She’d seen about four photographs. Eleanor knelt down to Lily’s level and said, “Sweetheart. We can be together now. Look what we’ve brought you.” David wheeled a shiny, pink bicycle into my hallway. Eleanor got a tablet out of a bag and held it out. It was the newest model, the one Lily had been wanting for months. Lily’s eyes lit up.

Before she could say a word, my twelve-year-old, Sarah, walked into the hall. She hadn’t said a word since they arrived. She stopped, looked from her mother to me, and then, deliberately, calmly, she pulled my phone from my pocket. She tapped the screen, and held it out to Eleanor. Four words glowed back at her: “We did alright.” Eleanor’s smile faltered. David shifted uncomfortably. The air in the hallway thickened, heavy with unspoken history. My hands clenched. Ten years. Ten years of birthdays, school plays, illnesses, and quiet desperation, all condensed into that single, pointed message from my eldest. What had she expected?

A Decade of Echoes

Eleanor finally spoke, her voice tight. “Sarah, that’s… rude.” Sarah didn’t flinch. “It’s true,” she said, her voice steady, a miniature version of my sister, Carol’s, unwavering gaze. “You left us. Dad did everything. We didn’t need a bike and a tablet to prove you could ‘build something better.’ We were… fine.” Fine wasn’t the word. We survived. I’d taken a second job at the diner, then a third cleaning offices, waking at 3:00 AM most mornings. The exhaustion had been a constant companion. But Sarah's bluntness stung. David cleared his throat. “Look, I just wanted to… make amends.

We both did.” “Amends?” Carol, who'd arrived moments before, stepped forward, her face a mask of controlled fury. “You abandon a family, then waltz back with consumer goods? That’s not amends, David. That’s… insulting.” I watched Eleanor, searching for any flicker of remorse. There was none. Only a carefully constructed facade of regret. She turned to me, her eyes cold. “You never understood, Thomas. You were always so… focused on the practical. You never saw the bigger picture.”

The Price of Freedom

“The bigger picture?” I asked, my voice dangerously low. “The bigger picture was seven children who needed their mother! The bigger picture was school lunches, and bedtime stories, and scraped knees! Not some grand vision of… what, exactly, Eleanor?” She flinched, a crack appearing in her composure. “I needed to find myself,” she said, the words sounding hollow even to her own ears. “I needed to… breathe.” David put a hand on her arm, a gesture that felt possessive and infuriating. “She built a successful business,” he offered, trying to sound proud. “A design firm. It’s very well-respected.”

The truth was finally coming out — and there was no turning back now… (Continue to Part 3 →)
