Son Tries to Sell Mom’s House, But She Has a Surprise in Store

Son Tries to Sell Mom’s House, But She Has a Surprise in Store
← Previous Part (1) Reading Part 2 of 3

I echoed, a small smile playing on my lips. “Oh, I don’t *want* anything, Dominic. I simply want what’s rightfully mine.” The house, of course, was the immediate priority. But the money… that was another matter entirely.

Over the past ten weeks, while they’d been indulging in caviar and cobblestone streets, I hadn’t been idle. I’d quietly contacted a financial investigator, a discreet woman named Ms. Petrov, who specialized in untangling complex financial schemes. It turned out Dominic hadn’t just sold the house. He’d taken out a second mortgage on it six months prior, using the falsified power of attorney, and funneled the money into a series of offshore accounts.

“He’s been laundering money, Mother,” Ms. Petrov had explained, her voice devoid of judgment. “And not small amounts. Significant sums.”

I hadn’t known the extent of his deception. My Dominic, the boy I’d nurtured and loved, had become a man capable of such callousness. “It’s not just about the house, is it?” Dominic said, his voice regaining some of its edge. “You’ve been digging.” I simply raised an eyebrow.

“Let’s just say I’ve been… doing my homework. And it appears your European adventure was funded, in part, by my retirement savings.” Amber let out a small gasp. “You’re going to ruin him,” she whispered, more to herself than to me. “No, dear,” I corrected, “He’s ruining himself.”

Unraveling the Threads

Dominic’s face was a mask of fury. “You’ve always resented me, haven’t you?” he spat, the carefully constructed facade of respect crumbling completely. “Ever since Dad always said I was the practical one, the one who could handle things. You always favored my sister, Sarah!”

It was a cheap shot, dredging up old sibling rivalries, but I didn’t flinch. “Sarah always had a better head for finances, yes. But this isn’t about Sarah. This is about you betraying my trust, stealing from me, and thinking you could get away with it.”

The truth was, my husband, George, had always worried about Dominic’s ambition, his relentless drive for success. George had often said, “He’s got a good heart, but he’ll always cut corners if it suits him.” I hadn’t wanted to believe it. I’d wanted to see the best in my son. But now… “Ms.

Petrov has already alerted the authorities,” I said calmly. “The IRS, the SEC… they’re all very interested in your offshore accounts.” Dominic’s eyes widened. He hadn’t considered the legal ramifications, too focused on the immediate gratification of his ill-gotten gains.

Amber, sensing the gravity of the situation, began to distance herself from her husband, subtly shifting her weight and avoiding his gaze. “Dominic, what have you done?” she mumbled, her voice laced with fear. He ignored her, fixated on me. “You’re doing this to destroy me,” he accused. “You’re enjoying this!”

I simply smiled. “I’m not enjoying it, Dominic. I’m restoring balance. And believe it or not, I’m doing this for you. Maybe, just maybe, facing the consequences will force you to become the man your father and I always hoped you would be.”

The truth was finally coming out — and there was no turning back now… (Continue to Part 3 →)
