Ingredients

1 cup warm water (110°F or 43°C)

2 teaspoons sugar

2 teaspoons active dry yeast

2 tablespoons olive oil

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon Italian seasoning

1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted

1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Optional: marinara sauce for dipping

Instructions

Activate the Yeast: In a small bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until foamy.

Make the Dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, salt, garlic powder, and Italian seasoning. Add the olive oil and the activated yeast mixture. Mix until a soft dough forms.

Knead the Dough: Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes, until smooth and elastic.

First Rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

Shape the Sticks: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Punch down the risen dough and roll it out into a rectangular shape, about 1/2 inch thick. Cut the dough into strips, about 1 inch wide.

Add Cheese: Place the dough strips onto a greased baking sheet. Brush the tops with melted butter and sprinkle generously with mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.

Second Rise: Allow the breadsticks to rise again for about 15-20 minutes.

Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until they are golden and the cheese is bubbly and slightly browned.

Garnish and Serve: Remove from the oven, brush with any remaining melted butter, and sprinkle with chopped parsley. Serve warm with marinara sauce for dipping.
