Ingredients

4 ripe bananas, sliced

1 tablespoon lemon juice

½ teaspoon vanilla extract

1 cup rolled oats

½ cup all-purpose flour

½ cup brown sugar

½ teaspoon cinnamon

¼ teaspoon salt

½ cup unsalted butter, melted

½ cup chopped walnuts (optional)

Vanilla ice cream or whipped cream, for serving

Instructions

Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 350°F (175°C) to warm up while you prepare the crumble.

Prepare the bananas: In a mixing bowl, combine the sliced bananas with lemon juice and vanilla extract. Gently toss to coat the bananas. This not only adds flavor but also prevents browning.

Make the crumble topping: In a separate bowl, mix the rolled oats, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Stir until evenly combined.

Combine and add butter: Gradually pour in the melted butter while stirring the oat mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs. If using, fold in the chopped walnuts for an added crunch.

Assemble the dish: In a greased 8x8 inch baking dish or a round pie dish, layer the banana mixture evenly. Sprinkle the crumble topping evenly over the bananas to cover them completely.

Bake: Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for about 30-35 minutes or until the crumble topping is golden brown and the bananas are bubbling.

Cool and serve: Once baked, remove from the oven and let it cool slightly. Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream for an indulgent treat.
