Ingredients

4 lbs pork shoulder (also known as pork butt)

2 tablespoons olive oil

1 tablespoon smoked paprika

2 teaspoons garlic powder

2 teaspoons onion powder

1 teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjust to taste)

1 tablespoon brown sugar

1 tablespoon salt

1 teaspoon black pepper

1 cup BBQ sauce (homemade or store-bought)

8 hamburger buns

1 cup coleslaw (optional, for topping)

Instructions

Prepare the Rub: In a small bowl, mix together the smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, brown sugar, salt, and black pepper. This will be your spice rub.

Season the Pork: Pat the pork shoulder dry with paper towels and rub olive oil all over it. Generously apply the spice rub to the pork, ensuring it's well covered on all sides. Let it marinate for at least 30 minutes (or overnight in the refrigerator for deeper flavor).

Slow Cook: Place the seasoned pork shoulder into a slow cooker. Add about 1/2 cup of water or broth to the bottom of the cooker to help create steam. Cook on low heat for 8-10 hours or on high heat for 4-6 hours, until the meat is tender and easily shreds with a fork.

Shred the Pork: Once cooked, carefully remove the pork from the slow cooker and place it on a large cutting board. Use two forks to shred the pork into bite-sized pieces.

Combine with BBQ Sauce: Return the shredded pork to the slow cooker and mix it with the BBQ sauce. Let it cook on low for another 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.

Toast the Buns: While the pork is soaking up the BBQ sauce, you can toast the hamburger buns on a grill or in the oven until golden brown.

Assemble the Sandwiches: Place a generous portion of the BBQ pulled pork on the bottom half of each toasted bun. If desired, top with coleslaw for an extra crunch and flavor. Cover with the top half of the bun.

Serve: Serve the BBQ pulled pork sandwiches warm with extra BBQ sauce on the side for dipping, and enjoy!
