Ingredients

1 cup unsalted butter, softened

1 cup brown sugar, packed

1/2 cup granulated sugar

2 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 cup chocolate chips (semi-sweet or dark)

1 cup caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)

Flaky sea salt (for topping, optional)

Instructions

Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.

Cream Butter and Sugars: In a large mixing bowl, beat together the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until creamy and smooth using an electric mixer on medium speed (about 2-3 minutes).

Add Eggs and Vanilla: Add the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Then, stir in the vanilla extract until fully combined.

Mix Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt.

Combine Mixtures: Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet mixture, mixing on low speed until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.

Fold in Chocolate Chips: Gently fold in the chocolate chips using a spatula, ensuring an even distribution throughout the batter.

Layering: Spread half of the batter into the prepared baking pan, smoothing it out evenly. Drizzle half of the caramel sauce over this layer. Use a spoon to dollop the remaining batter over the caramel, spreading it out as best as you can (it’s okay if it doesn’t cover completely).

Finish with Caramel: Drizzle the rest of the caramel sauce on top of the final layer of batter. Use a knife or a toothpick to swirl it slightly for a marbled effect.

Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until the edges are golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out mostly clean (some moist crumbs are fine).

Cool and Cut: Allow the bars to cool in the pan on a wire rack for at least 15 minutes. For the best results, let them cool completely before cutting them into squares.

Serve: Optional—sprinkle flaky sea salt on top before serving for an extra burst of flavor!
