Ingredients

For the Brownie Layer:

½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter

1 cup granulated sugar

2 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

⅓ cup unsweetened cocoa powder

½ cup all-purpose flour

¼ teaspoon salt

¼ teaspoon baking powder

For the Cheesecake Layer:

8 oz cream cheese, softened

¼ cup granulated sugar

1 egg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease an 8x8 inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.

Make the Brownie Batter: In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over low heat. Once melted, remove from heat and stir in the sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract until combined. Then add the cocoa powder, flour, salt, and baking powder, mixing until just combined. Be careful not to overmix. Pour the brownie batter into the prepared baking pan and spread evenly.

Prepare the Cheesecake Layer: In a mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese and sugar together until smooth. Add the egg and vanilla extract, mixing until combined. Then add the flour and mix until smooth and creamy.

Layer the Cheesecake: Pour the cheesecake mixture over the brownie batter in the baking pan. Use a knife or toothpick to swirl the two layers together gently, creating a marbled effect.

Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs (not wet batter). Be careful not to overbake!

Cool: Once baked, remove from the oven and let it cool in the pan for at least 15 minutes. Then, transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Slice and Serve: Once cooled, slice into squares. Serve plain or with whipped cream and a drizzle of chocolate sauce, if desired.
