Ingredients

2 ripe bananas, mashed

1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

1/2 cup brown sugar, packed

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1 large egg

1 tsp pure vanilla extract

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 tsp baking soda

1/4 tsp salt

1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Start by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x9-inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.

Mix Wet Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the melted butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar. Mix until well combined. Add the mashed bananas, egg, and vanilla extract. Stir until the mixture is smooth and creamy.

Combine Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Make sure there are no lumps.

Combine Wet and Dry: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring gently until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; it should be mixed until the flour is just incorporated.

Add Chocolate and Nuts: Fold in the semi-sweet chocolate chips and walnuts (if using) until evenly distributed throughout the batter.

Pour and Bake: Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan, spreading it evenly with a spatula. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean or with a few moist crumbs.

Cool and Serve: Once baked, remove the pan from the oven and let it cool in the pan for about 10 minutes. Then, transfer the bars to a wire rack to cool completely before cutting into squares.

Enjoy: Serve the chocolate chip banana bars on their own, or with a dollop of whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream for an extra treat!
