Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 ½ teaspoons baking powder

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

½ teaspoon salt

½ cup unsalted butter, softened

1 cup brown sugar, packed

½ cup granulated sugar

2 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 cup buttermilk

½ cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)

For the Cinnamon Swirl:

½ cup brown sugar, packed

2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted

For the Cream Cheese Frosting:

4 oz cream cheese, softened

2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened

1 cup powdered sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1-2 tablespoons milk (as needed)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.

Make the Batter: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt. In another bowl, cream the softened butter with brown sugar and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract.

Combine Ingredients: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with buttermilk. Mix until just combined. If using nuts, fold them into the batter gently.

Prepare the Cinnamon Swirl: In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar, cinnamon, and melted butter until combined. Set aside.

Layer the Batter: Pour half of the batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly. Then, drizzle half of the cinnamon swirl mixture over the top, using a knife to gently swirl it in.

Add Remaining Batter: Pour the remaining batter on top and smooth it out. Top with the remaining cinnamon swirl mixture, swirling again for a marbled effect.

Bake: Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Make the Frosting: While the bars are baking, prepare the cream cheese frosting by beating together the cream cheese, butter, powdered sugar, and vanilla. Add milk a tablespoon at a time until you reach your desired consistency.

Cool and Frost: Allow the cinnamon roll bars to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes. Once cooled, spread the cream cheese frosting evenly over the top.

Cut and Serve: Cut the bars into squares or rectangles and serve. Enjoy a little slice of bliss!
