Ingredients

1 loaf of day-old French bread, cut into small cubes

4 large eggs

1 cup milk (whole or any preferred milk)

1/4 cup heavy cream

1/4 cup brown sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup granulated sugar (for topping)

1 tablespoon ground cinnamon (for topping)

1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a muffin tin with cooking spray or melted butter.

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, brown sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until well combined.

Add the cubed French bread to the egg mixture, gently folding to ensure all the bread is soaked in the custard. Let it sit for about 10 minutes.

In a small bowl, mix together the granulated sugar and ground cinnamon for the topping.

Divide the soaked bread mixture evenly among the muffin tin, filling each cup about 3/4 full.

Drizzle the melted butter over the top of each muffin, then sprinkle with the cinnamon-sugar mixture.

Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

Once baked, allow the muffins to cool in the tin for 5 minutes. Then gently remove them and transfer to a wire rack to cool slightly.

Serve warm. Optionally, drizzle with maple syrup, add a dusting of powdered sugar, or top with fresh fruit for an even more delightful treat!
