Ingredients

6 cups French bread, cubed (about 4-6 slices)

4 large eggs

1 cup whole milk

1/2 cup heavy cream

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon nutmeg (optional)

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

1/4 cup brown sugar

1 tablespoon cinnamon (for topping)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a standard 12-cup muffin tin with cooking spray or butter.

Prepare the Bread: Place the cubed French bread into a large mixing bowl.

Mix the Custard: In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, nutmeg (if using), and salt until fully combined.

Combine Bread and Custard: Pour the custard mixture over the cubed bread and gently stir until all the bread is soaked. Let it sit for about 10-15 minutes to absorb the mixture.

Fill the Muffin Tin: Using a spoon, fill each muffin cup with the bread mixture, ensuring each one is filled evenly but not overflowing.

Make the Topping: In a small bowl, combine the melted butter, brown sugar, and the extra tablespoon of cinnamon. Mix until blended.

Add Topping: Drizzle the cinnamon butter mixture over each muffin cup, using a spoon to evenly distribute it.

Bake: Place the muffin tin in the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes or until the tops are golden brown and a toothpick comes out clean from the center of a muffin.

Cool and Serve: Once baked, remove from the oven and let the muffins cool in the tin for about 5 minutes. Transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely. Serve warm, optionally with maple syrup or whipped cream!
