Ingredients

8 oz elbow macaroni

4 cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded

2 cups milk

1/2 cup heavy cream

1/4 cup unsalted butter

1/4 cup all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon onion powder

1 teaspoon mustard powder

1/2 teaspoon paprika

Salt and black pepper to taste

1 cup breadcrumbs (for topping)

1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional for topping)

Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Cook the Macaroni: In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Add the elbow macaroni and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

Make the Cheese Sauce: In a large saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Once melted, add the flour and whisk constantly for about 2 minutes to create a roux.

Add Milk and Cream: Gradually whisk in the milk and cream, ensuring there are no lumps. Continue whisking until the mixture thickens (about 5-7 minutes).

Season the Sauce: Stir in the garlic powder, onion powder, mustard powder, paprika, salt, and pepper. Remove from heat and mix in 3 cups of the shredded cheddar cheese until melted and smooth.

Combine Pasta and Sauce: In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked macaroni and cheese sauce, stirring until the pasta is evenly coated.

Prepare for Baking: Transfer the macaroni and cheese mixture to a greased 9x13-inch baking dish.

Add Toppings: In a small bowl, mix the breadcrumbs with the remaining 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese and, if using, the grated Parmesan cheese. Sprinkle this mixture evenly over the macaroni and cheese.

Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden and crispy.

Garnish and Serve: Remove from the oven, let it cool for a few minutes, and garnish with chopped parsley. Serve warm and enjoy!
