Ingredients

1 pound ground beef

1/4 cup breadcrumbs

1/4 cup finely chopped onion

1 large egg

2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon onion powder

Salt and pepper to taste

2 tablespoons olive oil (for frying)

For the Mushroom Gravy:

1 cup sliced mushrooms (button or cremini)

1 medium onion, sliced

2 cups beef broth

2 tablespoons cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons water (for thickening)

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

Prepare the Patties: In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, chopped onion, egg, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined and form into 4 oval-shaped patties.

Cook the Patties: In a large skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat. Add the patties to the skillet and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until they are browned and cooked through. Remove the patties from the skillet and set them aside on a plate.

Make the Mushroom Gravy: In the same skillet, add the sliced mushrooms and onions. Sauté until they are softened and the mushrooms are browned, about 5-7 minutes.

Add Liquid: Pour in the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce, and bring to a simmer. Allow it to cook for about 3-4 minutes.

Thicken the Gravy: Stir the cornstarch mixture into the skillet and continue to stir until the gravy thickens, about 1-2 minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

Combine: Return the cooked patties to the skillet, spooning the mushroom gravy over the top. Allow them to simmer together for an additional 2-3 minutes so the flavors meld.

Serve: Serve the Salisbury steaks hot, drizzled with the mushroom gravy, and accompanied by mashed potatoes or rice for a complete meal.
