Ingredients

1 block (14 oz) firm tofu, pressed and drained

1 cup all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon onion powder

1 teaspoon smoked paprika

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon black pepper

1 cup breadcrumbs (panko preferred for extra crunch)

1/2 cup vegetable oil (for frying)

For the Honey Garlic Sauce:

1/4 cup honey

2 tablespoons soy sauce

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 tablespoon rice vinegar

1 teaspoon sesame oil

1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)

Chopped green onions (for garnish)

Sesame seeds (for garnish)

Instructions

Prep the Tofu: Slice the pressed tofu into bite-sized nuggets, about 1-inch cubes. Pat them dry with a paper towel to remove excess moisture.

Bread the Tofu: In a shallow bowl, mix together the flour, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. In a separate bowl, place the breadcrumbs.

Coat the Tofu: Dip each tofu nugget into the flour mixture, ensuring it’s fully coated. Shake off any excess. Then, dip it into the breadcrumbs, pressing gently to adhere. Set all coated nuggets aside on a plate.

Fry the Nuggets: Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, carefully place the tofu nuggets in the skillet in a single layer. Fry for about 2-3 minutes on each side or until golden brown and crispy. Work in batches if necessary, to avoid overcrowding. Transfer the fried nuggets to a plate lined with paper towels to absorb any excess oil.

Make the Honey Garlic Sauce: In a small saucepan, combine honey, soy sauce, minced garlic, rice vinegar, sesame oil, and red pepper flakes (if using). Cook over low heat for 2-3 minutes until the sauce has slightly thickened, stirring frequently.

Glaze the Nuggets: Once all the tofu nuggets are fried, return them to the skillet (if space allows) or a bowl. Drizzle the honey garlic sauce over the nuggets and gently toss to coat.

Serve: Garnish with chopped green onions and sesame seeds. Serve warm with dipping sauce, if desired.
