Butter is a critical ingredient in brownies, contributing to both their flavor and texture. In this recipe, we use unsalted butter for a couple of reasons. First, it allows you to control the saltiness of your brownies, ensuring a harmonious balance of flavors. Second, butter adds richness and moisture, which are essential for achieving that perfect fudgy consistency. When melted, butter also helps to dissolve the sugars, creating a smooth batter that bakes into a delectable treat.

Ingredients

1 cup unsalted butter (2 sticks)

1 1/4 cups granulated sugar

1 cup packed brown sugar

4 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 cup all-purpose flour

1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 cup Baileys Irish Cream

1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (optional)

1/2 cup chopped nuts (walnuts or pecans, optional)

Instructions

Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13 inch baking dish or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.

Melt the butter: In a saucepan over low heat, melt the unsalted butter completely. Once melted, remove from heat and allow it to cool slightly.

Combine sugars: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the granulated sugar and brown sugar until well combined.

Add eggs and vanilla: Add the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract until the mixture is smooth.

Add melted butter and Baileys: Gradually mix in the warm melted butter and Baileys Irish Cream, ensuring everything is well blended.

Combine dry ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, salt, and baking powder.

Mix dry into wet: Gradually fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture. Be careful not to overmix; stir until just combined.

Add chocolate chips and nuts (optional): If using, fold in the semi-sweet chocolate chips and chopped nuts until evenly distributed.

Pour into baking dish: Pour the brownie batter into the prepared baking dish, spreading it evenly with a spatula.

Bake: Place in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs (not completely clean).

Cool and serve: Allow the brownies to cool in the pan for at least 20 minutes before slicing into squares. For extra indulgence, consider serving with a drizzle of chocolate sauce or a dollop of whipped cream.
