Decadent Dulce de Leche Brownies

1 cup unsalted butter (2 sticks)

2 cups granulated sugar

4 large eggs

1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

1 cup all-purpose flour

1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 cup chocolate chips (semi-sweet or dark)

1 cup dulce de leche (store-bought or homemade)

Sea salt for sprinkling (optional)

Instructions
 

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line a 9x13 inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving some overhang for easy removal later.

    Melt the Butter: In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over low heat. Once melted, remove from heat and let it cool slightly.

      Combine Sugar and Butter: In a large mixing bowl, combine the melted butter and granulated sugar. Mix until well combined.

        Add Eggs and Vanilla: Whisk in the eggs one at a time, ensuring each is fully incorporated before adding the next. Then, stir in the vanilla extract.

          Mix Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry mixture into the wet ingredients, stirring until just combined.

            Incorporate Chocolate Chips: Fold in the chocolate chips into the brownie batter, distributing them evenly.

              Layer the Batter: Pour half of the brownie batter into the prepared baking pan, spreading it evenly.

                Dulce de Leche Swirl: Gently warm the dulce de leche in the microwave for about 15-20 seconds or until slightly thinner (this helps in spreading). Drop spoonfuls of dulce de leche over the brownie batter and swirl it with a knife or skewer.

                  Top with Remaining Batter: Carefully pour the remaining brownie batter over the dulce de leche layer, spreading it gently. You can add a few more dollops of dulce de leche on top and swirl again if desired.

                    Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs but not wet batter.
