Ingredients

For the cake layer:

1 cup unsalted butter, softened

1 cup granulated sugar

1 cup packed light brown sugar

4 large eggs

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/2 teaspoon salt

For the gooey topping:

1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

1 (8 oz) package cream cheese, softened

2 cups powdered sugar

2 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 cup chopped pecans

Instructions

Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with cooking spray or butter.

Make the cake layer: In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Add in the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition.

Combine dry ingredients: In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry mixture to the butter and sugar mixture, mixing just until combined. Stir in the vanilla extract.

Spread the batter: Pour the cake batter into the prepared baking dish and spread it evenly into the corners.

Prepare the gooey topping: In a separate mixing bowl, combine the melted butter and cream cheese, mixing until smooth. Gradually add the powdered sugar, blending well. Add the eggs one at a time and mix until fully incorporated. Stir in the vanilla extract and chopped pecans.

Layer the topping: Pour the gooey topping mixture over the cake batter, spreading it gently with a spatula to cover the surface.

Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for about 40-45 minutes or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out mostly clean (it should have some gooey texture as well).

Cool & serve: Allow the cake to cool in the pan for at least 15 minutes. Cut into squares and serve warm for the best gooey experience. Enjoy!
