8 ounces fettuccine or spaghetti

1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined

1 tablespoon olive oil

2 tablespoons unsalted butter

4 cloves garlic, minced

1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (adjust for spice preference)

1 pound asparagus, trimmed and cut into 2-inch pieces

1/2 cup chicken broth or white wine

1/4 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese

Juice of 1 lemon

Salt and black pepper, to taste

Zest of 1 lemon (for garnish)

Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions
 

Cook the Pasta: In a large pot of salted boiling water, cook the fettuccine or spaghetti according to package instructions until al dente. Reserve 1 cup of pasta water, then drain and set aside.

    Sauté the Shrimp: In a large skillet over medium-high heat, add the olive oil. Once hot, add the shrimp. Season with salt and pepper. Cook until they turn pink and opaque, about 2-3 minutes per side. Remove shrimp from the skillet and set aside.

      Sauté the Asparagus: In the same skillet, add the butter and let it melt. Add minced garlic and red pepper flakes, sautéing for about 30 seconds until fragrant. Add the asparagus and cook for about 3-4 minutes or until tender-crisp.

        Combine Everything: Pour in the chicken broth (or white wine) and bring to a simmer. Stir in the lemon juice and cooked shrimp. Let it simmer for another 1-2 minutes.

          Mix in the Pasta: Add the drained pasta to the skillet and toss everything together. If the dish seems dry, gradually add in the reserved pasta water until you reach your desired consistency.
