Ingredients

12 sticks of mozzarella cheese (string cheese or mozzarella block cut into sticks)

1 cup all-purpose flour

2 large eggs

1 tablespoon milk

1 cup breadcrumbs (preferably panko for extra crunch)

1 teaspoon dried Italian herbs (oregano, basil, or a mix)

½ teaspoon garlic powder

½ teaspoon onion powder

Salt and pepper to taste

Oil for frying (vegetable or canola)

Marinara sauce for dipping (optional)

Instructions

Prepare the Cheese: If using mozzarella blocks, cut them into sticks about 3-4 inches long. If using string cheese, simply unwrap and keep them whole.

    Setup Dredging Stations:

      - In one shallow bowl, add the flour and season with a pinch of salt and pepper.

        - In a second shallow bowl, whisk together the eggs and milk until well combined.

          - In a third bowl, combine the breadcrumbs, Italian herbs, garlic powder, and onion powder.

            Coat the Cheese Sticks:

              - First, take a mozzarella stick and roll it in the flour, ensuring it's fully coated. Shake off any excess flour.

                - Next, dip it in the egg mixture, allowing the excess to drip off.

                  - Finally, roll the cheese stick in the seasoned breadcrumbs, pressing gently to adhere. Repeat with all sticks.

Freeze the Coated Sticks: Place the coated mozzarella sticks on a baking sheet and freeze for at least 30 minutes. This step ensures that the cheese doesn't ooze out during frying.

Heat the Oil: In a large skillet or deep fryer, heat about 1-2 inches of oil to 350°F (175°C). Use a kitchen thermometer to ensure the oil is at the right temperature.

                        Fry the Mozzarella Sticks:

                          - Carefully add a few mozzarella sticks to the hot oil, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Fry in batches for about 1-2 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy on all sides.

                            - Using a slotted spoon, transfer the fried mozzarella sticks to a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.

Serve: Transfer the golden brown mozzarella sticks to a serving platter and pair with marinara sauce for dipping.
