Ingredients

2 ½ cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking soda

½ teaspoon baking powder

1 teaspoon salt

1 cup unsalted butter, softened

1 ½ cups sugar

1 large egg

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

1 teaspoon almond extract

1 teaspoon orange zest (optional)

Food coloring (black, orange, purple)

2 cups powdered sugar

3 tablespoons milk

Assorted Halloween-themed sprinkles and edible decorations

Instructions

In a bowl, mix flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.

In a large mixing bowl, cream the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.

Add the egg, vanilla extract, almond extract, and orange zest (if using). Mix well until combined.

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined.

Divide the cookie dough into four portions. Tint each portion with different food coloring (black, orange, purple) and mix until the color is evenly distributed.

Wrap each colored dough portion in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.

Roll out the colored doughs individually and use cookie cutters to create spooky shapes like bats, ghosts, and pumpkins.

Place cookies on the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart. Decorate with sprinkles before baking.

Bake for 8-10 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden. Remove from the oven and let the cookies cool on the sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

In a separate bowl, mix powdered sugar with milk to create a frosting glaze. You can separate and tint the glaze with food coloring to match your cookie designs.

Once the cookies are fully cooled, use the glaze to decorate as desired and add more Halloween sprinkles for the final touch.
