Ingredients

1 lb ground beef

1 medium onion, finely chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 green bell pepper, diced

1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce

1 can (6 oz) tomato paste

1 tsp Italian seasoning

1 tsp sugar

Salt and pepper to taste

4 large slices of garlic bread (store-bought or homemade)

1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded

Fresh basil leaves, for garnish

Olive oil, for cooking

Instructions

Sauté the Aromatics: Heat a tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and diced green bell pepper. Sauté for about 5 minutes, or until the onion becomes translucent.

Brown the Beef: Add the ground beef to the skillet, breaking it up with a spoon. Cook until browned and fully cooked through, approximately 7-10 minutes. Drain excess fat if necessary.

Add Garlic & Seasoning: Stir in the minced garlic, Italian seasoning, sugar, salt, and pepper. Allow to cook for an additional 2 minutes until fragrant.

Incorporate Tomato Sauce: Pour in the tomato sauce and tomato paste. Stir well to combine, reduce heat to low, and let simmer for about 10-15 minutes. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.

Prepare the Garlic Bread: Meanwhile, preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Place the garlic bread slices on a baking sheet and bake according to package directions or until golden brown if homemade.

Assemble Sloppy Joes: Once the mixture is ready, remove the garlic bread from the oven. Spoon the Sloppy Joe mixture generously over each slice of garlic bread.

Add Cheese: Sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese on top of each Sloppy Joe. Return to the oven for an additional 5 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

Garnish and Serve: Remove from oven, garnish with fresh basil leaves, and serve hot.
