1 cup whole milk

½ cup vegetable oil

2 large eggs

2 tsp vanilla extract

1 cup hot water

For the Hot Fudge Sauce:

1 cup packed brown sugar

1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1 cup whole milk

½ cup unsalted butter

1 tsp vanilla extract

¼ cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (optional for extra richness)

For Serving:

Maraschino cherries

Chopped nuts (such as pecans or walnuts)

Chocolate shavings or sprinkles

Instructions

Prepare the Cake Batter:

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.

      Add Wet Ingredients:

Stir in the milk, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract. Mix until combined, then slowly pour in the hot water. The batter will be thin; this is normal.

          Bake the Cake:

Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Remove from oven and let cool slightly.

              Make the Hot Fudge Sauce:

In a saucepan over medium heat, combine the brown sugar, cocoa powder, milk, and butter. Stir constantly until the mixture comes to a gentle boil. Let it boil for about 5-7 minutes, stirring often until it thickens slightly. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract and chocolate chips if using.

                  Create the Sundae Layer:

Once the cake is baked, use a fork to poke several holes all over the surface. Pour half of the hot fudge sauce over the warm cake, allowing it to soak in.

                      Serve:

Allow the cake to cool for a few minutes. Cut into squares and serve warm, topped with whipped cream, a maraschino cherry, and a sprinkle of chopped nuts and chocolate shavings for garnish. Drizzle with additional hot fudge sauce as desired.
