8 oz (225g) penne pasta

1 cup heavy cream

1 cup tomato sauce (preferably homemade or high-quality canned)

2 tablespoons olive oil

3 cloves garlic, minced

1 small onion, finely chopped

1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (adjust for spice preference)

1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Salt and pepper to taste

Fresh basil leaves, chopped (for garnish)

1/2 teaspoon dried oregano

Optional: 1/2 cup cooked protein (shrimp, chicken, or sausage)

Cook the Pasta: Boil a large pot of salted water. Add the penne pasta and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside, reserving 1/2 cup of the pasta water.

      Combine Tomato and Cream: Pour in the tomato sauce and stir for about 2 minutes. Then, gradually add the heavy cream, stirring continuously to combine. Let it simmer for about 5 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken slightly.
