Ingredients

1 lb ground beef

1/2 cup breadcrumbs (preferably fresh)

1/4 cup finely chopped onion

1/4 cup milk

1 large egg

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 tsp Worcestershire sauce

1 tsp Dijon mustard

Salt and pepper to taste

2 tbsp olive oil (for cooking)

2 cups beef broth

1 cup sliced mushrooms (button or cremini)

1 tbsp soy sauce

1/2 tsp dried thyme

1 tbsp cornstarch mixed with 2 tbsp water (for thickening)

Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, chopped onion, milk, egg, minced garlic, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined; avoid overmixing.

Shape the mixture into 4 oval patties, about 1 inch thick.

In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the patties and cook for about 4-5 minutes per side until browned. Remove from the skillet and set aside on a plate.

In the same skillet, add sliced mushrooms and sauté for 3-4 minutes until they are golden brown.

Pour in the beef broth and add soy sauce and dried thyme. Stir to combine, and place the patties back into the skillet.

Reduce the heat to low, cover, and let simmer for 15-20 minutes, allowing the patties to absorb the flavors and cook through.

After simmering, remove the patties again and set them aside.

Increase the heat to medium-high and stir in the cornstarch slurry. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens.

Return the Salisbury steaks to the pan, coating them in the rich mushroom gravy. Let them warm through for another 2-3 minutes.

Serve hot, garnished with fresh chopped parsley for a burst of color and freshness. Pair with mashed potatoes or steamed vegetables for a complete meal.
