1 lb (450g) flank steak, thinly sliced against the grain

4 cups broccoli florets

2 tablespoons vegetable oil, divided

1 red bell pepper, sliced

3 garlic cloves, minced

1 inch ginger, minced

3 tablespoons soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)

2 tablespoons oyster sauce

1 tablespoon hoisin sauce

1 tablespoon cornstarch

1 teaspoon sesame oil

½ cup beef broth (or water)

1 tablespoon sesame seeds (for garnish)

Cooked rice or noodles (for serving)

Instructions
 

Prepare the Marinade: In a medium bowl, combine the sliced flank steak with soy sauce, cornstarch, and sesame oil. Mix well and set aside for at least 15 minutes to marinate.

    Blanch the Broccoli: While the beef is marinating, bring a pot of water to a boil. Add the broccoli florets and blanch for 2 minutes until vibrant green and slightly tender. Drain and immediately transfer to ice water to stop cooking. Drain again and set aside.

      Stir Fry the Beef: In a large skillet or wok, heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the marinated flank steak, spreading it out in a single layer. Sear for about 2-3 minutes until browned but not fully cooked. Remove the beef from the skillet and set aside.

        Sauté Vegetables: In the same skillet, add the remaining tablespoon of oil. Add the minced garlic, minced ginger, and sliced red bell pepper. Sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.

          Combine Everything: Add the blanched broccoli back into the skillet, then pour in the beef broth, oyster sauce, and hoisin sauce. Stir everything together until well combined.

            Add the Beef Back: Return the beef to the skillet and continue to cook for 2-3 minutes, stirring frequently until the beef is cooked through and the sauce thickens slightly.

              Serve and Garnish: Serve the savory beef and broccoli stir-fry over cooked rice or noodles. Sprinkle with sesame seeds for an added crunch.
