Ingredients

12 oz spaghetti

1 lb ground beef (or ground turkey)

1 small onion, chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes

1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce

1 tsp dried basil

1 tsp dried oregano

1 tsp Italian seasoning

1/2 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)

Salt and pepper to taste

2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

1 cup ricotta cheese

1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

Preheat Oven: Begin by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with cooking spray or olive oil.

Cook Spaghetti: In a large pot of boiling salted water, cook the spaghetti according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

Prepare Meat Sauce: In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef (or turkey) with the chopped onion and minced garlic. Cook until the meat is no longer pink and the onions are translucent, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess fat.

Mix Sauce: Add the crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, dried basil, oregano, Italian seasoning, red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper to the skillet. Stir well and let it simmer for about 10 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.

Combine Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked spaghetti with the meat sauce until evenly mixed. Fold in the ricotta cheese until well distributed.

Layer and Top: Spoon half of the spaghetti mixture into the prepared baking dish. Sprinkle half of the mozzarella cheese over the top. Repeat with the remaining spaghetti mixture, then top with the remaining mozzarella and the grated Parmesan cheese.

Bake: Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil (to prevent sticking, you can spray the foil with cooking spray) and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes. Then remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.

Garnish and Serve: Once out of the oven, let the casserole cool for a few minutes. Garnish with fresh parsley before serving.
