Ingredients

2 cups water

2 black tea bags (or 2 tablespoons loose black tea)

1 cinnamon stick

5 green cardamom pods, crushed

4 whole cloves

1-inch piece of fresh ginger, sliced

1 star anise (optional)

1/4 cup brown sugar (adjust to taste)

2 cups milk (or dairy-free alternative)

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

A pinch of nutmeg (for garnish)

A pinch of ground cinnamon (for garnish)

Instructions

Brew the Spiced Tea: In a medium saucepan, combine the water, cinnamon stick, crushed cardamom pods, cloves, ginger slices, and star anise (if using). Bring to a boil over medium heat.

Steep the Tea: Once boiling, remove from heat and add the tea bags or loose tea. Cover and let it steep for 5-7 minutes, depending on how strong you like your tea.

Sweeten the Brew: Add the brown sugar to the warm tea mixture and stir until dissolved. Taste and adjust the sweetness if necessary.

Heat the Milk: In another saucepan, heat the milk over medium heat. If you prefer frothy milk, you can use a frother or whisk while heating to create a frothy texture.

Combine and Flavor: Remove the tea bags or strain out the loose tea and spices into the saucepan with the heated milk. Stir in the vanilla extract and heat through without boiling.

Serve: Pour the spiced chai latte into your favorite mugs. Sprinkle a pinch of nutmeg and a pinch of ground cinnamon on top for an aromatic finish.

Enjoy: Sip and savor the rich, spiced flavors of your homemade chai latte, perfect for a cozy day or a stimulating start!
