Ingredients

1 pound thick-cut bacon

1/2 cup brown sugar

1/4 cup maple syrup

1 teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjust to taste)

1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

1 teaspoon sea salt

Optional: 1 tablespoon crushed red pepper flakes for extra heat

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a large baking sheet with aluminum foil (for easier clean-up) and place a wire rack on top. This allows the fat to drain and helps the bacon cook evenly.

Prepare the Bacon: Lay the strips of bacon out on the wire rack without overlapping them. This is crucial for even cooking and to ensure that each strip is nicely coated.

Make the Candied Mixture: In a medium bowl, combine the brown sugar, maple syrup, cayenne pepper, smoked paprika, black pepper, and sea salt. Mix well until you have a paste-like consistency.

Coat the Bacon: Using a brush or your hands, generously spread the candied mixture onto each strip of bacon, ensuring all sides are coated. For an extra kick, sprinkle crushed red pepper flakes on top of the coated bacon.

Bake the Bacon: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for about 20-25 minutes, or until the bacon is crispy and caramelized. Keep an eye on it during the last few minutes to prevent burning.

Cool and Serve: Once done, carefully remove the baking sheet from the oven and allow the bacon to cool on the wire rack for at least 5 minutes. The candy coating will harden as it cools. Serve as a delicious snack or appetizer!

Storage: If you have leftovers (which is rare!), store the candied bacon in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. Reheat in the oven for a few minutes before serving again.
