Ingredients

6 medium apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), peeled, cored, and sliced

1 tablespoon lemon juice

1 cup brown sugar, packed

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

1 cup rolled oats

1/2 cup all-purpose flour

1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)

Pinch of salt

Vanilla ice cream (for serving)

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

In a large mixing bowl, toss the sliced apples with lemon juice, 1/2 cup of brown sugar, ground cinnamon, nutmeg, and a pinch of salt. Ensure the apples are evenly coated.

Spread the apple mixture evenly in a greased 9x13 inch baking dish, arranging them in an even layer.

In a separate bowl, combine the rolled oats, flour, remaining 1/2 cup of brown sugar, melted butter, and optional nuts. Mix until crumbly and all ingredients are well incorporated.

Evenly spread the oat mixture over the apples in the baking dish. Make sure to cover all the apple slices for a delicious crispy topping.

Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the apple filling is bubbling and the topping is golden brown.

Remove from the oven and let it cool slightly for about 10 minutes before serving.

Serve warm, preferably with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top, allowing it to melt slightly into the crispy delight.
